Find a job

Role profile

Most people when they're recruited into a role will have seen a job advert with a role profile. The profile usually identifies the responsibilities and required/desired skills for the role. It's not enough to be able to say you can do them before accepting. Rather you MUST do them after getting the role, often without reminder.

Being continually mindful of your role profile can make you more successful when you ask for a pay rise or promotion.

Delivery against each responsibility is likely to be key to being successful in the role, so it's important that you review the role profile regularly. Perhaps once a month or even once a week.

For each responsibility, list what you consider would make you successful in delivering - the critical success factors and plan how you would achieve them. You can continually improve if necessary rather than "big bang" approach. You could also use a RAG (red, amber, green) status for each responsibility to allow you to focus on the ones requiring most urgent attention.

If you need guidance for any of the responsibilities, e.g. to define the scope of it, you should ensure you ask for that guidance to ensure you aren't second-guessing, and guessing incorrectly. You may end up doing more than is needed otherwise.
